Professor of City & Regional Planning
Nausheen H. Anwar is Director, Karachi Urban Lab & Professor City & Regional Planning, in the School of Economics & Social Sciences (SESS), Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Karachi. She received her PhD from the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation (GSAPP), Columbia University. Nausheen’s current research focuses on issues of thermal inequality in the context of the impacts of global warming on poor, marginalized urban populations. She is the author of Infrastructure Redux: Crisis, Progress in Industrial Pakistan & Beyond (2015, Palgrave Macmillan); her writings have been published widely in journals such as Antipode, Urban Studies, South Asian History and Culture, and Political Geography; she has also contributed to online publications such as Dawn, Prism, MIT Technology Review Pakistan, Somatosphere, and Huffington Post. Nausheen is also the recipient of grants from organizations such as IDRC, DFID, ESRC-AHRC, GCRF, National University Singapore and Harvard University. Nausheen is committed to public outreach to advance the understanding of the consequences of climate change on cities in Pakistan.
