Franziska is a biologist by training and holds a PhD in epidemiology. She has been working on climate change and health for about 20 years, for example with the WHO Regional Office for Europe. Her expertise related to preparedness and response to extreme weather events (such as heat-waves and floods), focusing on the development, assessment and implementation of heat health action plans. She was involved in the EC project EuroHEAT, which developed the guidance for heat health action pans (2008). Currently, she is employed at the Institute for Epidemiology at the Helmholtz Zentrum München, with a broader scope of work in environment and health, including, for example, the UN sustainability goals and the challenges of transformational change.
